The Asia Cup 2022 tournament was earlier slated to be hosted in Sri Lanka. However, the tournament is now moved to UAE considering the worst economic crisis Sri Lanka are going through at the moment in their country. There is not enough fuel and food to host as many as nine teams for this tournament!

Sri Lanka has successfully hosted two bilateral series in the last month hosting Australia and Pakistan but the officials think that hosting around nine teams is not possible in their current economic position. Sri Lanka will still have the hosting rights despite the tournament being moved to UAE.
"Every effort was made to host the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka and the decision to shift the venue to the UAE was taken after much deliberation. The UAE will be the new venue while Sri Lanka will continue to retain hosting rights," Jay Shah, the Asian Cricket Council President said.
"Hosting two teams is not the same as hosting ten teams. You have to provide ten buses with fuel for all of them. You have to give every team a luggage van with fuel, and transport for the managers. The fuel for the generators to run the floodlights will also have to be found," SLC chief executive officer Ashley de Silva said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
The last edition of the Asia Cup was played in 2018 which was also played in UAE with India being the hosts. This year's edition will also be played in a 20-over format with all the teams participating having a chance to get practice for the T20 World Cup later this year.
In the Asia Cup 2022 edition, UAE, Kuwait, Singapore, and Hong Kong will play in the qualifying round. The winner of this round will join Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan in the main round. The tournament will be played between August 27 and September 11 in the UAE.
