South African bowlers made perfect utilization of the cloud cover at the venue to help their team register an innings victory in the first Test match!

South African captain Dean Elgar won the toss and opted to field first on Day 1 on which they picked up 6 wickets and let England score just 116 runs. For the record, almost half of Day 1 was washed away by rain! England, though, resumed their first innings on the second day and were bowled out for 165 runs in the first innings with Ollie Pope top scoring for them with 73 runs.
South Africa showed a lot of composure with the bat in their first innings and put 326 runs with a complete team effort! Opener Sarel Erwee scored 73 runs while Marco Jansen (48), Dean Elgar (47), and Keshav Maharaj (41) all scored in the 40s! England pacer Stuart Broad bagged 3 wickets in this innings and completed 100 wickets at Lord's with his first innings in this innings!
Having come to bat with a 161-run deficit in the second innings, England were bowled out for just 149 runs in their 2nd innings losing the match by a margin of an innings & 12 runs. Stuart Broad being their joint top-scorer with 35 runs highlights the struggle of home team batters in this Test match!
Kagiso Rabada was the pick of the South Africa bowlers with 7 wickets in this match including a 5-wicket haul in the first innings. This superb bowling performance helped him bag the Player of the Match award in this Test match. Anrich Nortje too accounted for wickets as he bagged 6 wickets in both the innings combined!
With a thumping innings victory in the first Test match at Lord's, South Africa are currently enjoying a 1-0 lead in this 3-match Test series. The second Test match of the series will be played in Manchester beginning on Thursday (Aug 25).
