New Zealand level series in the 2nd Windies ODI

Finn Allen's 96 and Tim Southee's impressive bowling spell (4-22) helped New Zealand defeat West Indies in the rain-affected 2nd ODI of the 3-match series by 51 runs to level the series 1-1. Though the Kiwis did not put a huge score (212 all out in 48.2 overs) on the board, the rain came to their rescue as the adjudged target (212 in 41 overs) was genuinely unfair for the home team!

Toss Update: West Indies won the toss and opted to field first.

After being sent into bat first, New Zealand scored 212 on the board losing all their 10 wickets in 48.2 overs. Opener Finn Allen top scored for them with 96 runs. It was a valiant knock from the inexperienced opener even though he missed out on his much-deserved hundred!

Contributions from Daryl Mitchell (41) and Mitchell Santner (26*) helped them get past the 200-run mark in what were termed as tough conditions for batting! Kevin Sinclair was the pick of Windies bowers with a 4-wicket haul and Jason Holder also starred with the ball with 3 wickets. With rain delays, the target for Windies was adjusted as 212 in 41 overs.

West Indies, chasing 212 runs to win, scored just 161 runs before getting bowled out in 35.3 overs. Tailenders Yannic Cariah (52 runs) and Alzarri Joseph (49) did most of the scoring in this run-chase but the Windies fell well short of the target.

Kiwis pacers Tim Southee (4-22) and Trent Boult (3-18) shared 7 wickets between them as the visitors registered a thumping 51-run victory to level this 3-match series 1-1 with a match to go!

Match result: New Zealand defeated West Indies by a margin of 51 runs.

Finn Allen has been adjudged as the Player of the Match for his crucial contribution of 96 runs off 117 deliveries with 7 fours and 3 sixes. The 3-match series is currently level 1-1 with the third and final ODI to be played on Sunday (Aug 21) at Bridgetown.
