Virat Kohli 71st ton help India beat Afghanistan in dead rubber

Virat Kohli's unbeaten century and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar's 5-wicket haul helped India comfortably defeat Afghanistan in the Super 4 match of Asia Cup 2022! Incidentally, both these teams were already ruled out of the tournament making this match only a dead rubber!

Toss Update: Afghanistan won the toss and opted to field first.

After being sent into bat first, India scored 212 on the board losing 2 wickets in 20 overs. Virat Kohli scored unbeaten 122* runs, his 71st century in International cricket, to help India cruise past 200-mark! KL Rahul too scored a half-century in this high-scoring encounter.

Rishabh Pant, however, showed no signs of comfort at the crease as he scored just 20* runs off 16 deliveries during the death! For most of his knock, he never looked comfortable at the crease. Afghan pacer Fareed Ahmad bagged both the wickets to fall in India's innings!

Afghanistan, chasing 213 runs to win, managed to score just 111 runs losing 8 wickets in 20 overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar bagged a five-wicket haul conceding just 4 runs from his 4 overs. He bowled 20 dot balls in his 4 overs and conceded just 4 singles! On the other hand, he bowled all his 4 overs upfront in the run-chase.

Ibrahim Zadran top-scored for the Afghans with 64 runs but he couldn't take his team anywhere near India's total! In the end, Afghanistan lost the match by a huge margin of 101 runs!

Virat Kohli has been adjudged as the Player of the Match for his crucial contribution of 122* not out off 61 deliveries with 12 fours and 6 sixes.
