Mendis’ Explosive Cameo Secures Sri Lanka Win After Collapse

Batting first, Zimbabwe set a strong platform and posted 175/7 in 20 overs. Sri Lanka’s chase began brightly, with Pathum Nissanka leading the charge. He crafted a brisk 55 off 32 balls and, alongside Kusal Mendis, added a commanding 96-run opening partnership. At that stage, Sri Lanka looked well on course for a comfortable finish.

However, Zimbabwe’s bowlers struck back strongly, sparking a collapse that saw Sri Lanka stumble from 96 without loss to 106/4, and later 125/5. With momentum shifting, the visitors needed a rescue act.

That came from Kamindu Mendis, who produced a spectacular late assault. His unbeaten 41 off just 16 deliveries included four towering sixes and a crucial boundary, flipping the contest back in Sri Lanka’s favour. Displaying nerves of steel, he finished the chase with five balls to spare, ensuring the visitors crossed the line in style.

The match swung dramatically between the two sides, but Sri Lanka’s batting depth and Kamindu Mendis’ explosive cameo proved decisive. Zimbabwe fought valiantly, yet the visitors walked away with both the win and the early advantage in the series.
