Ben Stokes, England all-rounder, has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the first day of the fourth Test match against South Africa at the Wanderers stadium.
The all-rounder was found to have breached Article 2.3 of ICC Code of Conduct which relates to 'use of an audible obscenity during an International Match'. Apart from the match fee fine, Stokes also bagged a demerit point. Incidentally, this was the first such offence for Stokes during the last 24-month period.
Stokes admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed and there was no need for a formal hearing. For the record, all Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum penalty of 50 percent of player's match fee coupled with one or two demerit points.
