Melbourne Renegades defeated Brisbane Heat by a margin of seven wickets on Monday (Jan 27) at Docklands Stadium in Melbourne to end the tournament on a high! With this Renegades' 7-wicket victory, Brisbane Heat are officially out of this ninth edition of the Big Bash League!
Having opted to bat first in a must-win encounter, Heat scored just 154 for 7 in their 20 overs courtesy a 47-ball 65 from Matt Renshaw. In reply, Renegades chased down the target with seven wickets in hand and four balls to spare. During the chase, Renegades captain Aaron Finch scored an unbeaten half-century (63* off 49) to take his team over the line.
Finch has been adjudged as the 'Player of the Match' for constructing the innings superbly during the chase. With this game, the 56 games in the round-robin stage of the tournament comes to an end. The Eliminator between Hobart Hurricanes (fourth place) and Sydney Thunder (fifth place) will be played at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Thursday (Jan 30).
