New Zealand defeated India by a margin of 4 wickets in the first ODI of the three-match series on Wednesday (Feb 05) at the Seddon Park in Hamilton to take a lead of 1-0 in the series. After failing to win games for New Zealand in the recently concluded T20I series, veteran Ross Taylor held his nerve to take his team to a comfortable victory!
After being put to bat first, India made a superb effort with the bat scoring 347 for 4 in 50 overs courtesy maiden century from Shreyas Iyer (103 off 107), Lokesh Rahul (88* off 64) and Kedar Jadhav (26 off 15). In reply, New Zealand chased down the target with 4 wickets in hand and 11 balls to spare. Ross Taylor (109* off 84), Henry Nicholls (78 off 82) and Tom Latham (69 off 48) are the top performers during the chase.
Ross Taylor has been adjudged as the 'Player of the Match' for his unbeaten century which helped New Zealand win the game. The second ODI of the three-match series is scheduled to be played at the Eden Park in Auckland on Saturday (Feb 08).
