South Africa defeated England by a margin of 7 wickets in the first ODI of the three-match series on Tuesday (Feb 04) at the Newlands stadium in Cape Town. Unlike the Test match series earlier, Proteas now would want to go on to win the ODI series after winning the first game of the series.
After being put to bat first, England struggled to score fluently and managed to post just 258 for 8 on the board. Joe Denly (87 off 103) and Chris Woakes (40 off 42) are the top performers for England with the bat. In reply, South Africa chased down with seven wickets in hand courtesy a 173-run stand for the second wicket between Quinton de Kock (107 off 113) and Temba Bavuma (98 off 103).
Quinton de Kock has been adjudged as the 'Player of the Match' for his match-winning century leading South Africa as captain. With this victory, South Africa are now leading the three-match ODI series by 1-0. The second ODI is scheduled to be played at Kingsmead in Durban on Friday (Feb 07).
