New Zealand defeated India in the second ODI at Eden Park in Auckland on Saturday (Feb 08) by a margin of 22 runs to take an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-match series. Despite failing to take New Zealand over the line in the T20I series on multiple occasions, veteran batsman Ross Taylor stayed undefeated in both the first two ODI games to win them the series!
Having opted to bat first, New Zealand managed to score 273 for 8 in 50 overs courtesy half-centuries each from Martin Guptill (79 off 79) and Ross Taylor (73* off 74). In reply, India were bowled out for 251 conceding New Zealand a 22-run victory. Half-century from Shreyas Iyer (52 off 57) and 76-run stand for the 8th wicket between Ravindra Jadeja (55 off 73) and Navdeep Saini (45 off 49) are the stand out performances from the Indian batsmen.
Debutant Kyle Jamieson has been adjudged as the 'Player of the Match' for picking up two crucial wickets at crucial moments of the game. The third and final ODI of the series is scheduled to be played at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Tuesday (Feb 11).
