Sydney Sixers defeated Melbourne Stars in the ninth edition of Big Bash League on Saturday (Feb 08) to win the title for the second time in the history of the tournament! With the uninvited appearance of rain before the start of the match, the game was reduced to 12-overs aside with Stars opting to bowl first.
In 12 overs, Sixers scored 116 for 5 courtesy half-century from opener Josh Philippe (52 off 29). In reply, Stars scored 97 for 6 in 12 overs to lose the game by and the title 19 runs in the end. This is the third time Stars made it to the final and lost all of them! On the other hand, Sixers managed to win their second title after winning the inaugural edition.
Stars opener Josh Philippe has been adjudged as the 'Player of the Match' for his crucial half-century at the top. Stars opener Marcus Stoinis has been adjudged as the 'Player of the Series' for scoring 705 runs in 17 games at an average of over 54.
