New Zealand defeated India by 5 wickets in the third ODI of the three-match series on Tuesday (Feb 11) to complete a 3-0 whitewash against India! After getting whitewashed by 0-5 in the T20I series in the hands of India, it was a brilliant comeback from the home team New Zealand to whitewash them in the three-match ODI series!
Having put into to bat first, India scored 296 for 7 in 50 overs courtesy century from Lokesh Rahul (112 off 113) and a half-century from Shreyas Iyer (62 off 63). Hamish Bennett of New Zealand picked up 4 wickets including the prized wickets of Indian captain Virat Kohli. In reply, New Zealand chased down the target with 5 wicket in hand and 17 balls to spare, with contributions from Martin Guptill (66 off 46), Henry Nicholls (80 off 103) and Colin de Grandhomme (58* off 28).
Henry Nicholls has been adjudged as the 'Player of the Match' for his crucial half-century at the top. Ross Taylor has been adjudged as the 'Player of the Series' for taking New Zealand over the line in two of the three ODIs in this three-match series. The first Test match of the two-match series is scheduled to be played starting from next Friday (Feb 21) at Basin Reserve in Wellington.
