IPL 2020, Match 10: RCB defeat MI in Super-Over finish

IPL 2020, Match 10, Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bangalore - Royal Challengers Bangalore won the Super Over

Monday, Sep 28, 2020, Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai

Mumbai Indians were completely out of the game while chasing until the death overs. And then they made a brilliant comeback to almost win the game. However, they managed to push the game into a Super Over scoring 89 runs in the last 5 overs. And then with some brain fade cricket in the Super Over, MI lost the game eventually!

After being sent into bat first, RCB got off to a flier with both their openers - Aaron Finch (52 off 35) and Devdutt Padikkal (54 off 40) - scoring a half-century each! The duo added 84 runs for the first wicket. With some late flourish with the bat from AB de Villiers (55* off 24) and Shivam Dube (27* off 10), RCB finished with a total of 201/3 in 20 overs.

The only weakest link in RCB's batting in this game was Virat Kohli who crawled his way to 3 runs off 11 deliveries! For a player of his standard, these are just below-below-par figures! However, he should have got some confidence after hitting the winning runs in the Super Over. Amount Mumbai bowlers, Trent Boult picked up 2 wickets while Rahul Chahar picked up a sole wicket.

In reply, Mumbai Indians were never at any stage showed no intention to keep the chase alive till the death overs! Ishan Kishan (99 off 58) and Kieron Pollard (60* off 24) batted brilliantly during death overs scoring 89 runs in the last five overs. Ishan missed his ton by just a run and his wicket in the penultimate ball of the 20th over gave RCB a slimmer of a hope. Pollard hit a boundary off the final delivery needing 5 runs to victory.

Super Over:

MI batsmen: Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma
RCB bowler: Navdeep Saini

RCB batsmen: AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli, Aaron Finch
MI bowler: Jasprit Bumrah

Batting first, Mumbai just managed to score 7 runs off Saini's over. Out of those seven runs, one was a boundary and a bye off the final delivery. Pollard and Hardik both struggled to put bat on ball. Chasing 8 to victory, RCB romped home with a boundary off the last delivery!

Brief Scores: Royal Challengers Bangalore - 201/3 in 20 overs (AB de Villiers - 55*, Devdutt Padikkal 54, Trent Boult - 2/34, Rahul Chahar - 1/31) defeated Mumbai Indians - 201/5 in 20 overs (Ishan Kishan - 99, Kieron Pollard - 60*, Isuru Udana - 2/45, Washington Sundar - 1/12) in the Super Over
