Having opted to bat first, Punjab made a very cautious start! Mandeep Singh (27 off 16) and Nicholas Pooran (33 off 17) batted with a sense of urgency during the middle overs but once they both departed, Kings XI could not go at a good strike rate! Captain KL Rahul scored a half-century (63 off 52) but with not a great strike rate! Punjab got to 178/4 in 20 overs in the end, a score which most thought would have been enough considering CSK's record with the bat in this season!
However, CSK as always did an amazing turnaround in this game romping home with a 10-wicket victory. Openers Shane Watson (83* off 53) and Faf du Plessis (87* off 53) scored half-centuries each as they shared the workload evenly in this massive much-needed victory! CSK got home with 10 wickets in hand and 2.2 overs to spare in their innings. Watson bagged the 'Player of the Match' award for taking the responsibility of scoring quick runs during the start of the chase!
Brief Scores: Chennai Super Kings - 181/0 in 17.4 overs (Faf du Plessis - 87*, Shane Watson - 84) defeated Kings XI Punjab - 178/4 in 20 overs (KL Rahul - 63, Nicholas Pooran - 33, Shardul Thakur - 2/39, Ravindra Jadeja - 1/30) by a margin of 10 wickets
