Wednesday, Oct 08, 2020, Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered yet another defeat in the ongoing IPL 2020 season! This time they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by a margin of 10 runs chasing just 168 to win! Overall in their 6 games in this season so far, CSK have won just two games (against Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab) and lost the remaining four.

Having opted to bat first, Knight Riders dropped out-of-form opener Sunil Narine to No. 4 and promoted Rahul Tripathi to open the innings! The move has worked as Tripathi was the only player to cross the 20-run mark in this innings. Tripathi scored 81 runs off 51 deliveries with 8 fours and 3 sixes while the rest of the batsmen batted around him! For the record, the next best in KKR's innings is 17 by both Sunil Narine and Pat Cummins!
Overall, Knight Riders got to just 167 before getting all out in 20 overs. Dwayne Bravo bagged three wickets while Karn Sharma, Shardul Thakur and Sam Curran bagged two wickets each. Deepak Chahar was expensive as he conceded 47 runs from his 4 overs without picking up any wicket!
Chennai earlier in the season chased down 163 against Mumbai Indians and 179 against Kings XI Punjab and the target of 168 against KKR in this match only seemed par for the Chennai batsmen during the start of the chase. However, they miserably failed to chase this target against the Knight Riders bowling line-up!
Shane Watson scored his second consecutive half-century (50 runs off 40 deliveries with 6 fours and a six) while Ambati Rayudu scored 30 runs (off 27 balls). Ravindra Jadeja towards the end scored a quick-fire 21* off just 8 deliveries but all these contributions were undone by the slow batting of Mahendra Singh Dhoni (11 off 12) and Kedar Jadhav (unbeaten 7* off 12)! In the end, CSK lost the game by a slight margin of 10 runs.
KKR opener Rahul Tripathi bagged 'Player of the Match' award for his explosive innings at the top. After this match, KKR moved one place up to third place with 6 points while Chennai are placed at fifth position.
Brief Scores: Kolkata Knight Riders - 167 all out in 20 overs (Rahul Tripathi - 81, Dwayne Bravo - 3/37, Karn Sharma - 2/25) defeated Chennai Super Kings - 157/5 in 20 overs (Shane Watson - 50, Ambati Rayudu - 30, Andre Russell - 1/18, Kamlesh Nagarkoti - 1/21) by a margin of 10 runs
