IPL 2020, Match 28: RCB crush KKR in Sharjah

IPL 2020, Match 28, Kolkata Knight Riders vs Royal Challengers Bangalore - Royal Challengers Bangalore won by 82 runs

Monday, Oct 13, 2020, Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah

A much needed huge victory for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as they defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by a margin of 82 runs. Until this match, RCB's Net Run Rate (NRR) was way less than others even though they are sitting in the top 4 in the points table. RCB until now lost games by big margins and won games by small margins which contributed to their poor NRR. However, Virat Kohli and RCB's team management would be too pleased with this big victory against Knight Riders.

Having opted to bat first, RCB openers Aaron Finch and Devdutt Padikkal provided them a good platform with a 67-run stand. And then it was all about the striking powers of AB de Villiers who smashed an unbeaten 73* off just 33 deliveries with 5 fours and 6 sixes. Courtesy of his hitting, RCB were able to score 15 or more runs in four out of the last five overs which helped them post 194/2 in 20 overs.

During the chase, Knight Riders looked never comfortable with the bat. Shubman Gill (34 off 25), Andre Russell (16 off 10) and Rahul Tripathi (16 off 22) are the only players for KKR to get to double figures in this game. Chasing such a massive target, this effort was certainly not enough! In the end, KKR managed to score only 112/9 in their 20 overs to concede a massive 82-run victory for RCB.

RCB spinners bowled economically as well as picked up wickets to cripple KKR in this steep run chase. Yuzvendra Chahal returned figures of 1/12 in his 4 overs while Washington Sundar registered 2/20 in his 4 overs. Chris Morris had another special outing with the ball as he conceded just 17 runs picking up 2 wickets in his 4 overs! AB de Villiers bagged the 'Player of the Match' award for his exceptional batting.

Brief Scores: Royal Challengers Bangalore - 194/2 in 20 overs (AB de Villiers - 73*, Aaron Finch - 47, Prasidh Krishna - 1/42, Andre Russell - 1/51) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders - 112/9 in 20 overs (Shubman Gill - 34, Chris Morris - 2/17, Washington Sundar - 2/20) by a margin of 82 runs
