RCB made four changes to their playing XI going into this do-or-die game. Aaron Finch, Moeen Ali, Adam Zampa and Navdeep Saini have replaced Josh Phillippe, Chris Morris (injured), Isuru Udana and Shahbaz Ahmed. Apart from the player changes, Kohli promoted himself to open the innings despite not opening in a single game during the league phase. For SRH, Shreevats Goswami replaced injured Wriddhiman Saha.
After being sent into bat first, both RCB openers Virat Kohli (6 off 7) and Devdutt Padikkal (1 off 6) departed cheaply. Aaron Finch (32 off 30) and AB de Villiers then added 41 runs for the third wicket to give them a good start. Once Finch departed in the 11th over, AB did not find a viable partner and had to wage a lone war against the SRH bowlers.
Natarajan bowled a brilliant yorker delivery that helped SRH see the back of AB de Villiers (56 off 43) in the 18th over. It was brilliant delivery that uprooted the middle-stump. Not everyday one would get to see AB lose his middle stump! In the end, RCB managed to score just 131/7 in 20 overs. Among SRH bowlers, Jason Holder bagged 3 wickets while Natarajan bagged two wickets. Shabaz Nadeem picked up sole wicket.
During the chase, the new opener Shreevats Goswami bagged a 3-ball Duck while David Warner (17 off 17) was given out by third umpire in quite a controversial manner! With the departure of Manish Pandey (24 off 21) and Priyam Garg (7 off 14), RCB fancied themselves to push for a victory in this game.
However, the unbeaten 65*-run stand for the fifth wicket between Kane Williamson (50* off 44) and Jason Holder (24* off 20) helped SRH win the game comfortably by a margin of 6 wickets and with 2 balls to spare. For his crucial half-century, Williamson bagged the 'Player of the Match' award.
With this victory, Sun Risers moved to the Qualifier 2 and will face Delhi Capitals in Abu Dhabi on Sunday (Nov 08). Royal Challengers Bangalore, with this defeat, are now knocked out of the tournament. For the record, RCB lost five games (including this game against SRH) on the bounce to get knocked out of the tournament.
Brief Scores: Sun Risers Hyderabad - 132/4 in 19.4 overs (Kane Williamson - 50*, Jason Holder - 24*, Mohammad Siraj - 2/28, Adam Zampa - 1/12) defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore - 131/7 in 20 overs (AB de Villiers - 56, Aaron Finch - 32, Jason Holder - 3/25, T Natarajan - 2/33) by a margin of 6 wickets
