Mumbai Indians lost their captain for a first-ball Duck after being asked to bat first by the Capitals skipper Shreyas Iyer. Later Quinton de Kock (40 off 25) and Suryakumar Yadav (51 off 38) added 62 runs for the second wicket to give them a good start. Delhi were in control of the innings until the 14th over where MI managed to score only 108 runs losing 4 wickets. But then, the game went out of control for Delhi as Mumbai batters Hardik Pandya and Ishan Kishan unleashed themselves on the Delhi bowlers during the death overs!
MI scored 92 runs in the final 6 overs to finish the innings on a high - 200/5 in 20 overs. Ishan scored an unbeaten 55* off 30 deliveries while Hardik Pandya scored unbeaten 37* runs off just 14 deliveries with 5 sixes. Delhi's pace duo Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje conceded 92 runs from their 8 overs with just picking up a wicket. Ravichandran Ashwin was the pick of Delhi bowlers with 3/29 from his 4 overs.
During the chase, Delhi never really looked alive to win this game. Their top three batsmen -Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan & Ajinkya Rahane - all departed for a duck each. Three wickets down without even opening their scorecard, Delhi looked under lot of trouble at that stage! Very little contributions later from Shreyas Iyer (12 off 8) and Rishabh Pant (3 off 9) turned things bad to ugly.
A 71-run stand between Marcus Stoinis (65 off 46) and Axar Patel (42 off 33) for the sixth wicket helped Delhi save their face in this massive run-chase. Overall, Delhi managed to score 143/8 in 20 overs reducing the defeat margin to just 57 runs! After the awful start, that was some recovery for Delhi with the bat led by Stoinis and Axar.
Jasprit Bumrah bagged the 'Player of the Match' award for his brilliant bowling spell (4/14 in 4 overs) that broke the back of Delhi Capitals early in the run-chase. With this victory, Mumbai Indians directly move to the Final which will also be played at the same venue on Tuesday (Nov 10).
Brief Scores: Mumbai Indians - 200/5 in 20 overs (Ishan Kishan - 55, Suryakumar Yadav - 51, Ravichandran Ashwin - 3/29, Marcus Stoinis - 1/5) defeated Delhi Capitals - 143/8 in 20 overs (Marcus Stoinis - 65, Axar Patel - 42, Jasprit Bumrah - 4/14, Trent Boult - 2/9) by a margin of 57 runs
