Sunday, Nov 01, 2020, Dubai International Cricket Stadium

Eoin Morgan and Pat Cummins came good probably at the right moment to help Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) stay afloat in the playoff race with a 60-run victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR). Having chased 195 and 185 in their previous two games, RR failed to chase 191 against KKR in this game and failed to make to the playoffs in the IPL 2020 season.

KKR were asked to bat first by RR in this must-win game for both the teams! Shubman Gill (36 off 24) and Rahul Tripathi (39 off 34) scored 30s each while Andre Russell scored a quick-fire 25 runs off just 11 deliveries! However, the highlight of Knight Riders batting was the unbeaten half-century from captain Eoin Morgan. He remained unbeaten on 68* off 35 deliveries which includes 5 fours and 6 sixes as KKR finished with a massive total of 191/7 in 20 overs.

On the other hand, Nitish Rana, Sunil Narine and Dinesh Karthik bagged Ducks each in this innings. Rahul Tewatia is the pick of Royals' bowlers as he returned with bowling figures of 3/25 in his 4 overs. Young Kartik Tyagi bagged two wickets while Jofra Archer and Shreyas Gopal bagged a wicket each. Archer was economical too conceding just 19 runs from his 4 overs.

During the chase, Knight Riders did not get a single partnership going. Chasing a mammoth target, they were reduced to 37/5 with KKR pacer Pat Cummins being the wrecker in chief who bagged 4 out of those 5 wickets! RR never really recovered from this early collapse! Shivam Mavi and Varun Chakravarthy bagged 2 wickets each while Kamlesh Nagarkoti bagged a wicket as RR just managed to score 131/9 in 20 overs conceding a superb 60-run victory for Knight Riders.

Pat Cummins bagged the 'Player of the Match' award for his superb bowling at the start that broke the back of Rajasthan in this must-win game. With this victory, Knight Riders moved to fourth position in the points table. Their chances of making it to the playoffs now heavily depend on the SRH vs MI game on Tuesday (Nov 03) and the victory margin in the DC vs RCB match on Monday (Nov 02).

Brief Scores: Kolkata Knight Riders - 191/7 in 20 overs (Eoin Morgan - 68*, Rahul Tripathi - 39, Rahul Tewatia - 3/25, Kartik Tyagi - 2/36) defeated Rajasthan Royals - 131/9 in 20 overs (Jos Buttler - 35, Rahul Tewatia - 31, Pat Cummins - 4/34, Shivam Mavi - 2/15) by a margin of 60 runs
