England stated that their final playing XI would be announced only at the time of the toss on Thursday (Dec 16). Given the success of James Anderson with the pink ball under lights, James Anderson would directly walk into the XI at Adelaide Oval.

Given the record with the ball for Stuart Broad against David Warner, it would be great to have Broad in the playing XI at Adelaide. England cannot surely drop Ollie Robinson from their XI. Going by their poor batting record, the visitors cannot drop all-rounder Chris Woakes either from their XI.

England might drop the expensive Jack Leach with their captain Joe Root doing the spin duties. Remember, Root bagged a five-for against India earlier this year in Ahmedabad. Whoever may face the axe, it would definitely be a hard decision to make for the England management!
