England name 12-member squad for the Gabba Test

England announced their 12-member squad for the first Ashes Test match against Australia which is to be played at the Gabba beginning from Wednesday (Dec 08). The squad selection was in line with the reports that were making rounds in the last 24 hours! James Anderson has been left out of this 12-man squad!

There are no other surprises in their Test squad apart from the exclusion of James Anderson! Even though there was no official confirmation from the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB), Anderson was reportedly left out of the squad for Gabba Test to be in rhythm for the second Test match at the Adelaide Oval which will be a D/N affair.

Who would be sitting out from the Test from this 12-member squad? I would like to think that one among Ollie Pope, Mark Wood, Jack Leach might warm the bench in this Test match! Keep your comments coming though! Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed are expected to open with both of them having a lot to prove.

Ollie Robinson has been exceptional with both ball and bat during their home series. It would be great to watch him with the ball in hand during this Ashes series in Australia. England might even consider the option of going in with 4 full-time bowlers in Gabba which will put more workload on all-rounder Ben Stokes!

Out of the 21 Ashes Test matches played at the Gabba venue, England only managed to win 4 games! England would really punch above their weight to win this Test match after being at the receiving end at home in their previous two series - against New Zealand and India! Also, England's last victory at this venue was in 1986!

The first Ashes Test match between Australia and England will be at the Gabba venue in Brisbane beginning from Wednesday (Dec 08).

England's squad for the first Ashes Test Match: Rory Burns, Haseeb Hameed, Dawid Malan, Joe Root (c), Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Ollie Pope, Chris Woakes, Stuart Broad, Ollie Robinson, Mark Wood, Jack Leach
