Perth Opera won't be staging fifth Ashes Test

The fifth and final Test match between Australia and England which was earlier scheduled to be played at the newly-built Opera Stadium in Perth has been moved out of the state! The late decision has been made keeping in view the strict quarantine rules made by the state with the emergence of the new Omicron variant.

"While absolutely every effort was made to ensure the final Test match of the series could be staged in Perth, border controls, quarantine requirements and the complexities of staging a five-Test series in a tight schedule have meant it is unfortunately not possible to align the respective priorities of the WA Government, CA and WA Cricket," as stated by Cricket Australia.

At this juncture, there is no official announcement as to where the fifth Test will be staged. However, the discussions are underway to pick a venue for this final Test match! Moreover, Cricket Australia also stated that the changes to the order of the venues in this series cannot be done at this stage of the tournament!

"These complexities also mean that any suggestion of changing the order of the venues would not be feasible. Discussions about a replacement venue for the fifth Test match are underway," added the statement.

As per the current schedule, the Test matches in this series will be hosted at The Gabba (Dec 08 - 12), Adelaide Oval (Dec 16 - 20), MCG (Dec 26 - 30), SCG (Jan 05 - 09). The venue for the fifth Test match will be announced as time progresses. In case you are unaware, Australia will be led by pacer Pat Cummins in the upcoming Ashes series at home.
