India crush Zimbabwe in the second ODI to win series

Sanju Samson's unbeaten 43* and Shardul Thakur's 3-38 helped India comfortably defeat Zimbabwe in the 2nd ODI of the 3-match series to take an unassailable lead of 2-0 to register series victory!

Toss Update: India won the toss and opted to field first.

After being sent into bat first, Zimbabwe scored 161 on the board losing 10 wickets in 38.2 overs. Sean Williams (42) and Ryan Burl (39) top scored for them but couldn't carry on to get them to a good total on the board. Sharul Thakur who returned to the side bagged 3 wickets while Mohammad Siraj conceded just 16 runs from his 8 overs bagging a wicket.

India, chasing 162 runs to win, chased down the target losing just 5 wickets in 25.4 overs. Sanju Samson top-scored for them with an unbeaten 43* runs as India registered a comfortable victory. Unlike the first ODI, the Zimbabwean bowlers managed to dismiss Indian batters and, in fact, bagged 5 wickets in this 2nd ODI to zero in the first ODI.

Captain KL Rahul promoted himself to open the batting but scored just a single run from the 5 deliveries he faced! Opener Shikhar Dhawan (33 off 21) and Shubman Gill (33 off 34) at no. 3 scored in the 30s to get India off to a steady start after the quick wicket!

Match result: India defeated Zimbabwe by a margin of 5 wickets.

Sanju Samson has been adjudged as the Player of the Match for his crucial contribution of 43 runs from 39 deliveries with 3 fours and 4 sixes. The third and final ODI of this series will be played at the same venue, Harare, on Monday (Aug 22).
