Zimbabwe chase down 304 in 1st Bangladesh ODI

Zimbabwe rubbed salt on Bangladesh's wounds with a victory in the first ODI chasing down a target of 304 runs quite comfortably. Sikandar Raza's all-round performance (135* not out with the bat and 1-48 with the ball) and Innocent Kaia's century (110) helped hosts Zimbabwe comfortably defeat Bangladesh in the 1st ODI match of the 3-match series.

Toss Update: Zimbabwe won the toss and opted to field first.

After being sent into bat first, Bangladesh batters put on a show with the bat. Their openers added 119 runs for the first wicket before Tamim (62) was dismissed. Litton scored briskly after the first wicket only to retire hurt when batting on 81 off 89 deliveries due to a hamstring injury!

Anamul Haque (73 off 62) and Mushfiqur Rahim (52* off 49) scored half-centuries to help them get past the 300-mark. Eventually, Bangladesh ended up with 303/2 on the board in their 50 overs! But with plenty of wickets in hand, this was just a par score that they had achieved in 50 overs!

Zimbabwe, chasing 304 runs to win, got over the line losing just 5 wickets in 48.2 overs. Centuries each from Sikandar Raza (135*) and Innocent Kaia (110) helped them go 1-0 up in the 3-match quite comfortably. This duo has added 192 runs for the fourth wicket which decided the fate of the game! For the record, hosts Zimbabwe were reduced to 6/2 early on in the chase!

Match result: Zimbabwe defeated Bangladesh by a margin of 5 wickets.

Sikandar Raza has been adjudged as the Player of the Match for his crucial contribution of 135* off 109 deliveries with 8 fours and 6 sixes. The second ODI of the 3-match series will be played on Sunday (Aug 07) in Harare.
